I thought I would post about the exercise of researching one of your outlandish dreams to put a price tag on it. I first learned about it in Four Hour Work Week. Turns out, I already blogged about it. You can read that article, and access the tool that will calculate your dream here.
So, where does that leave me with today’s post? I guess I’ll discuss a dream I’m contemplating. This year is my (and Jarrell’s) thirty fifth birthday. That’s a big one. I say that about every birthday, because I do believe that every birthday is a big one. But thirty-five is a really big one. On top of that, this August will mark ten years since we married. Ten years happily married.
So, I’ve been playing around with how to celebrate such a monumental year correctly. In a fashion we look back on and sigh in a way that pays tribute to how much fun it was, but also how all-encompassing it was. I want to do something memorable, which for me requires length.
Remember, I’m the person who didn’t want to travel abroad on her first trip out the country. I wanted to moveabroad. In that same style, I think I want to have a long vacation somewhere. Preferably somewhere offering all we can’t access in Bali, a break from our current life.
Initially, I thought just one spot for a month, but Jarrell proposed taking a page from our own book, and country hopping for a month instead, traveling as often as we feel. For about 5-years, we traveled freely. Staying in a place as long as we liked it, then packing everything up and heading to the next location. Nothing was booked too far in advance, leaving us so much freedom to stay or go as we felt. Jarrell thinks we should do that.
So, I’m currently dreamscaping that idea. I have a notebook dedicated to the different costs, apartments I find, current travel restrictions, and everything else I need to know. Strangely, it’s scary all over again. I’m older. I have a lot more to lose. I have more obligations and responsibilities.
But it does sound cool. A month of country hopping? I can do that, right? And once we decide on a region of the world to explore, we can plan to go to different museums and events and festivals. We can even start practicing a new language in preparation.
Okay, I’m getting excited. I’m going to get my notebook and start searching for different regions. I’ll keep you posted. If you have any suggestions or enabling, drop it in the comments.
