Ah! I did it! After much deliberation and with much fear, I dyed my hair. I was terrified it would all play out like that scene in What’s Love Got to Do With It, when Tina dyes her hair blonde and it ends up all falling out in the washing bowl. I’d never dyed my hair professionally. And in typical Amirah fashion, I wanted to go bold – bright purple!
Two days before my appointment I decided to change the plan and go for highlights instead of dying all my hair. I was so nervous the day of, but I did it anyway. The result was perfection, and quite metaphoric reminder for me.
I can do things scared. I can handle the threat of failure. I can change. And I can enjoy change.
It feels like a fresh start, and an alignment with my inner and outer self. Now, I feel like I look like I live the life I live. My look was too traditional, too normal for someone who has lived a nomadic life for a decade.
With my new look come some new aspirations and freebies for you to kickstart your year. I’ve decided my word of the year is optimistic. My phrase is ‘Show Me How Good It Can Get’. And my daily affirmation is ‘I’m Having a Good Day’.
Vision Board Templates
I have a few different ones I use. Click on the photos of any you like and it will lead you to the template to edit it. Below are instructions to use the template if you’re not familiar with Canva.
How to Use the Vision Board Template:
- Click on the photo of the vision board you want to edit, and then click the button to ‘Use Template’.
- Sign into Canva. If you do not have an account, you can create one or sign in with Google, or Facebook.
- Change photos, text, and colors to those that spark joy and speak to your desires for the year.
- Fill the vision board with inspiration and put it in a place that you will see daily. I print mine out and put them on my desk using one of these holders.
New Year Guide
At the start of the year, I like to reflect on the previous year before looking forward to new goals. Trust me, there are plenty of wins worthy of your celebration before you move right into doing, being, and planning more. I added a printed version of this new year guide to the Bali Boxes. Now, you can purchase a downloadable version for $5. Get it here.
