Thanks so much for coming along with me on this travel journey. Although I know the world loves videos these days, I love writing and it’s the best way for me to share not only what I did, but what I learned along the way. Maybe it will help you if you visit the same destinations, maybe it’s inspiration, maybe it’s simply entertainment. Either way, thanks for coming along. You can read the first part of this year’s adventure (the journey from Bali to Amsterdam and Marrakech) here.
The reason we were going to Morocco was more than vacation. It is our second destination hosting retreats. We arrived a week before the guests to quadruple check every detail. After planning the trip for an entire year, it was surreal to finally be preparing for guests.
The retreats are such a dream for me. I always tell the guests how intertwined we are, because by coming on the trips they’ve helped me realize a dream. I’ve always wanted to bring people along on our travels. It started as only vicariously; you could watch the stories and comment on the blog, learn from the tips, and maybe go on your own. The retreats allow me to take things further. You get to go to the restaurant I love and taste the best dish I’ve tried.
Morocco Baecation
In our first year of hosting retreats in Morocco, we started with a Baecation and then hosted four sold out weeks of women’s retreats. The itinerary is the same for every week, and I know it’s amazing, because I never tire of any of it.
All my retreats start with a trip to the spa. I think it’s the perfect way to start a vacation, thanking your body for getting there, and spoiling yourself. In Marrakech, the spoiling goes to the next level. The spa is absolutely beautiful – more marble than any other surface.
Everyone gets to experience a hammam – my absolute favorite spa treatment. You go into a wet room that doubles as a sauna, and the therapist comes in, drenches you in warm water, turns the lights out and leaves. I always give the ladies a nice talk explaining what you can expect, because in real time there are no instructions.
After about 15-minutes of relaxing in the warm room, your pores are open and ready or the next step. The woman returns and covers you in black soap, which is a mix of black olives, olive oil, and argan oil all mixed into a paste. Again, she leaves you in the dark as you relax on the marble bench. This time, you can smell the Eucalyptus oil in the black soap and it really starts to sink in that you are in Morocco, being bathed in a spa. What?!
The next time she returns, the woman brings a tray that has small bowls of green tea body wash, argan oil, and shampoo if you’re getting your hair washed (I always go for the hair wash). The therapist uses a ‘kessa’, which is basically an exfoliating mit. She scrubs every sin from your body in the next step. Then, finally bathes you with the body wash, and shampoos your hair.
Manifesting in Marrakech Retreat
Afterwards, you’ll be amazed at how soft your skin is and question if you’ve ever truly been clean before. It’s bliss. There’s a lot more luxurious details, with a plethora of traditional Moroccan treats, tea, and fresh juices for us to choose from. On the women’s retreat, we have the entire spa to ourselves. On the Baecation, the couples each have a private experience.
After the hammam, you enjoy a massage before relaxing by the pool. Next, we head to a rooftop for lunch. Sounds amazing, right? It is. And can you believe the girls have the nerve to ask, “Are you sick of doing this yet?”
For the rest of the week, we explore Marrakech in a city tour, a gourmet cooking class, a shopping tour, and a luxury glamping experience in the desert. The week goes by so fast, but slow enough to really enjoy yourself.
A Dream Come True
So, that’s what we did for FIVE weeks in Morocco! We hosted a total of 46-people! And it was perfect! There’s not one thing I would change or alter about the trips. They were more amazing than I even imagined they could be. Can you believe that? This little idea I had to bring people from living vicariously through us to traveling together has become a real thing! For a week, I got to vacation with two other couples who felt like family. And then for four weeks, I had the privilege of spoiling women, and convince them to indulge in luxury while demanding, ‘Show Me How Good it Can Get!”
I’m back home in Bali now. So, my updates will be weekly. Next stop – America! Then, Tokyo!
See you soon!
